A BLESSED PLACE TO BE AT

Officially known as the Republic of Rwanda, or Kinyarwanda, the small hilly, fertile country of 13 million people is blessed with 365 days of cool and medium weather conditions. They proudly call it the 'land of thousand hills,' a land so elevated that it is at about a 1,000 metres above sea level at the lowest point and 4,500 metres at the highest. Mountains line up in the west, while savanna can be seen in the southeast. The country abounds in lakes, adding to the overall scenic charm that has been a tourist attraction. Largely rural and agricultural, Rwanda has of late registered a leap in tourism that fetches respectable foreign exchange. Rwanda has peace, lovely weather, liberal policies, good governance, and cost-effective and youthful labour. The combination is ideal for investment.

HEALTHCARE A KEY AREA

Education is a key area waiting for investments. President Kagame has made it a priority. Liberal government policies that are rooted in a determination to progress have brought rewards. A country which lacked modern medical facilities now boasts of medical colleges and lifestyle/herbal/ayurvedic facilities. Yet, there's ample scope for investment in the healthcare sector.

The country is open to investments, especially in the medical sector, where there is plenty of scope for development. Hospitals, medical colleges, pharmaceutical firms, equipment makers, all have scope to invest and thrive. The Believers Church group from India has of late come to Kigali, setting up a modern healthcare facility and college., Rwanda and the European Union recently signed a 50 million Euro agreement, Rwf 64 billion, to scale up the country's Early Childhood Development, ECD, programme. European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen signed the deal with Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente. It will bring a funding from the European Investment Bank for the construction of classrooms and other school infrastructure.

Ngirente spoke of a government plan to set up the African Biomanufacturing Institute. Efforts will also be made to address the shortage of skilled professionals in the bio-manufacturing industry on the continent. It will become a training centre for all Africans who want to be trained as professionals in that field, ” he said.

VACCINE UNIT

The BioNTech vaccine manufacturing plant came to Rwanda in June. It is projected to promote mRNA vaccine production in Africa. President Kagame, who launched the facility, said: “Vaccine manufacturing requires advanced regulatory capability as well as a highly skilled human capital.”

He announced the approval given to the African Bio-Manufacturing Institute project too. “This is just the start, but a big start, BioNTech and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will partner to manufacture Tuberculosis, HIV, and Malaria vaccines."

The University of Rwanda runs the Kigali Health Institute, a training centre for healthcare professionals. In particular, there had been a focus on malaria eradication because the disease has killed thousands of young children. According to reports, China will boost support to Rwanda's TVET sector. Two letters of intent were signed between Rwanda Polytechnic and Shandong Water Conservancy Vocational College, and Shandong Vocational College of Industry of China.
